Day of Prayer for Sutton 1st November 2017

On 1st November members of all three churches met at 7 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.. We listened to God through scripture and in prayer, and prayed for our churches, our communities and the vision for the future.

As we reflected on Psalm 34:1-10 (at 7 a.m.) we felt God was encouraging us to remember

  • To praise and worship God in all the circumstances of life, both good times and hard times, and no matter what
  • That we, as God’s people will develop a kind of radiance , reflecting the light and love of God to others around us
  • That we are called to be together in what we’re doing.
  • That He promises deliverance from our fears
  • That the transforming power of God will take away shame

In our lunchtime prayer meeting (1 p.m.) we reflected on 1 John 1:1-3

  • We are supposed to have a family likeness- as a church family we are the children of God, growing more Christ-like
  • We need to collaborate on our united Christian presence in the community whilst recognising different contexts in which we worship

In our evening prayer meeting (7 p.m.) we reflected on Matt. 5:1-12

  • We are invited to live according to the promises in the beatitudes
  • God promises blessing in situations that are hard to bear, humanly speaking. Blessing is not the same as happiness.
  • We were reminded to be prayerful for people who suffer persecution in parts of the world today, some even dying because of their faith.

The next day of prayer is December 6th  2017  (7 a.m. at St. Michael, , 1 p.m. at All Saints and 7 p.m. at St. Nicholas)

We have a number of problems in the churchyard, which we are striving to address. We are proposing to establish a Friends of Sutton Churchyard group for those interested in helping to maintain the churchyard as a safe and pleasant place, and at least attempt to solve some of the issues. This would involve attending meetings concerning the maintenance and security of the churchyard and volunteering for activities in the churchyard as appropriate, for example, helping with the maintenance and fund raising. Perhaps you have a family grave here and would like to help. If you would be interested in participating in helping your parish churchyard, please e-mail us.
